Otro de los grupos que ha tenido la amabilidad de responder al test metálico que he enviado a las bandas que aparecen en este Blog ha sido el de los italianos ALLTHENIKO. Las últimas noticias que nos dejaron los de Vercelli fue su impresionante, aunque corta, actuación en el V POUNDING METAL en mayo y la publicación de su tercer álbum MILLENIUM REBURN este mismo año.
1. When, where and how you started the band? Have you been together long? Have you played in other bands?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
We founded the band in July 2002, we all live in Vercelli (a town in the north-west of Italy between Milano and Torino): Luke has known Dave for a long time, while Dave played with Joe shortly before founding “Alltheniko”, so everything began from their meeting, Dave and Joe have known each other and wanted to create a new band, but needed a drummer, with Luke “Alltheniko” was done!

1.- ¿Cuándo, dónde y cómo se inició la banda? ¿Habéis estado juntos mucho tiempo? ¿Habéis tocado en otras bandas?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Nosotros fundamos la banda en Julio del 2002. Todos vivimos en Vercelli (un pueblo del noroeste de Italia, entre Milán y Turín). Luke conoce a Dave desde hace tiempo, mientras que Dave tocó con Joe brevemente antes de fundar “Alltheniko”, así que todo empezó a partir de nuestro encuentro. Dave y Joe se conocían y querían crear una nueva banda, pero necesitaban un batería, con Luke “Altheniko” estaba hecho.
2. What are your most direct influences?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
The band is inspired by traditional European heavy metal and, in equal measure, by overseas thrash and speed. We believe to have mixed the characteristics of these styles without exceeding in none.

La banda está inspirada en Heavy Metal tradicional europeo y en igual medida, en el thrash y speed del extranjero. Creemos que se han mezclado las características de estos estilos sin exceder ninguno.
3. Do you have contact with other bands of similar musical style? What do you think about the Traditional Heavy Metal explosion of the world?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Yes, we know other bands playing different music, but we have a contact neither close nor collaborative. We’re definitely binded to metal!
3.- ¿Tenéis contacto con otras bandas de estilo similar?. ¿Qué pensáis sobre la explosión del Heavy metal tradicional en el mundo?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Si, conocemos otras bandas que tocan diferente música pero no tenemos un contacto cercano. ¡Nosotros estamos definitivamente comprometidos con el Metal!
4. Do you feel the interest of the people in the band and the Traditional Metal?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Yes, luckily! And this is the driving force leading us not to give up, never. When you play underpaid, in often badly organized contexts, doing kilometres and playing a niche genre in our country.., if you don’t have a positive feedback, support from the public it’s hard to find the strength to keep on.

4.- ¿Sentís el interés de la gente en la banda y en el metal tradicional?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Sí, afortunadamente. Y esta es la fuerza que nos une para no rendirnos nunca. Cuando tocas mal pagado y a menudo con mala organización, haciendo km y tocando un género relativamente poco apoyado en nuestro país, si no tienes una respuesta positiva del apoyo del público, es difícil encontrar la fuerza para seguir adelante.
5. Do you listen in your music player other "new" bands like yours? What are your favorite bands in this style emerged in recent years?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
We all usually listen to a lot of various music, but I think our preferences could be deduced from what we play! Nowadays, you can find great musical proposals in Europe that we appreciate and regard highly, even if it’s getting more and more necessary to go and see bands live to realize one’s validity.
5.- ¿Escucháis en vuestros reproductores otras “nuevas bandas” como vosotros? ¿Cuáles son vuestras bandas favoritas en este estilo surgido en los últimos años?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Nosotros solemos escuchar mucha música variada pero yo pienso que nuestras preferencias podrían deducirse desde lo que nosotros tocamos. Hoy en día te puedes encontrar grandes propuestas musicales en Europa que apreciamos y tenemos en alta estima, aunque cada vez es más necesario ir a ver bandas en directo para darse cuenta de su validez.
6. Is this style in danger? Do you think, like me, the big heavy metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden ... need to be “replaced” by new bands with new fresh ideas?
Joe:
Of course, but I think that so important bands aren’t willing to let anyone have their place, rather, maybe they prefer this music to finish with them. Anyway, until they are the only one to fill up stadiums and sell discs, everything will be in their hands! Playing it safe is convenient for major labels or big organizations! Surely, there could be a generation turnover in the future, but, in that case, also the “old system” should change and everything should be new, transparent and built on merit, otherwise no future is possible!
6.- ¿Es este un estilo en peligro?, ¿Creéis como yo que las bandas grandes de Heavy metal como Judas Priest, Iron Maiden…, tienen la necesidad de ser “reemplazados” por nuevas bandas con ideas frescas?
Joe:
Por supuesto, pero pienso que bandas tan importantes no están dispuestos a permitir que nadie tenga su lugar, más bien puede que ellos prefieran que esta música termine con ellos. De todos modos, mientras que ellos sean los únicos en llenar estadios y vender discos, todo estará en sus manos. Ir a lo seguro es conveniente para las grandes discográficas o grandes organizaciones. Ciertamente, podría haber un cambio generacional en el futuro, pero en este caso, también el “viejo sistema” debe cambiar y todo debe ser nuevo, transparente y basado en el mérito, de lo contrario no es posible el futuro.
7. Do you have trouble finding places to play your music? Are you getting attention from developers, music critics, record companies...? What do you think about how it has operated underground Heavy Metal through partnerships and associations today?
Luke:
Finding places where playing our music isn’t easy, especially without anyone (any organization) behind, but it’s better so. People have always supported us, has been always on our side, because music is the only important thing and if your music is ok, then that’s all. The critics and experts are a different issue: we don’t have any friendship or acquaintance within the scene, so we haven’t received any promotional “push”, but however we always received respect and admiration from musical experts.
7.- ¿Habéis tenido problemas encontrando sitios para tocar música? ¿Estáis consiguiendo la atención de críticos de música y compañías de discos? ¿Qué pensáis sobre cómo se ha obrado en el Heavy metal underground a través de alianzas y asociaciones hoy?
Luke:
Encontrar sitios donde tocar nuestra música no es fácil, especialmente sin ninguna organización detrás, pero esto es mejor así. La gente siempre nos ha apoyado, ha estado a nuestro lado porque la música es lo único que importa y si tu música está bien, al final eso es todo. Los críticos y expertos son un tema diferente, no tenemos ninguna amistad o conocido dentro de la escena, por lo que no hemos recibido ningún empujón promocional, pero sin embargo siempre tenemos respeto y admiración de los expertos musicales.
8. What do you think about "Do it yourself"? Is that always the way or is the goal of getting the band signed with a powerful label?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
From the beginning till now we always did everything by ourselves, from composing songs, to recording them, from gigs booking to graphic art or websites/web pages and all this has enhanced the band union. Obviously keeping on doing by ourselves could become a limit, because sooner or later you need specific figures, even if this step is a consequence of “do it yourself” for a long time.
8.- ¿Qué pensáis sobre “hazlo tú mismo”? ¿Es siempre el objetivo de una banda conseguir que firme con un sello grande?
Joe, Luke & Dave:
Desde el principio hasta ahora siempre hicimos todo nosotros mismos. Desde componer canciones, grabar, páginas web…, y todo esto ha mejorado la unidad de la banda. Obviamente seguir haciendo todo nosotros podría llegar a ser limitado porque tarde o temprano necesitas figuras específicas, aunque este paso es una consecuencia de hacerlo tú mismo por mucho tiempo.
Luke:
Bombastic productions quite disguste me, as they’re cold, artificial, nearly unreal. Even so, I think that some dirty productions like in the ‘80s aren’t so positive, as sometimes careless or approximate and furthermore I believe that playing in 2011 as in 1982. It’s senseless. Thanks to Joe’s skills, we choose a heavy but natural sound, chic sounds real, a right mix between the origins of the genre and its evolution nowadays.
9.- En los últimos 10 ó 15 años se ha fijado una producción grandilocuente en el metal. Algunos de estos grupos que emergen en estos años prefieren una producción más "sucia” como en los 80’s. ¿Qué pensáis sobre ello?
Luke:
Me disgustan mucho las producciones rimbombantes, son frías, artificiales, cercanas a lo irreal. Aun así creo que algunas producciones sucias como en los 80 no son tan positivas, a veces descuidadas, yo creo que yendo más allá, tocar en 2011 como en 1982 no tiene sentido.
Gracias a las habilidades de Joe, elegimos un sonido heavy pero natural, sonidos reales, elegantes, una mezcla justa entre los orígenes del género y la evolución en la actualidad.
10. What is your opinion about Internet and downloading albums for free? I introduce links in my pages and people can download the album. Do you have any problem with this issue?
Joe:
Free downloads of our albums are in larger number than the total amount of copies available. It could be an additional promotional form, as the retailing system doesn’t grant royalties to bands, so the money spent in buying a physical Cd is split among label, distributor, shop and nothing to the band! If you really want to support us, buy Cds contacting us directly or come and see our concerts where you find all the discs!
10.- ¿Cuál es vuestra opinión sobre internet y la descarga de discos de forma gratuita? Yo introduje enlaces en mis páginas y la gente puede descargar el álbum. ¿Tenéis algún problema con este tema?
Joe:
Descargas gratuitas de nuestros discos se encuentran en mayor número que la cantidad total de ejemplares disponibles. Podría ser una forma adicional de promoción, como el sistema de ventas al por menor no otorga derechos a bandas, por lo que el dinero gastado en la compra de un Cd se divide entre la compañía, distribuidor, tienda y nada a la banda. Si realmente queréis apoyarnos comprar el cd contactando directamente con nosotros o venir a ver nuestros conciertos donde encontraréis todos los discos.
11. When are you going to publish new material? Will there be any surprises?
